Oxford Schools’ Debate Competition

in Departments, News

In January, our Beaufort debaters took part in the Irish Regional Trials in The Institute of Education for the Oxford Schools’ debating competition, which is the largest BP school-level debate competition in the world. After two rounds of competition, Eva Mai Loughman and Freya Long qualified to represent our school and Ireland at the International Finals Day in The Oxford Union on the 15th March. They met teams from around the world and participated in four rounds of intense debates, with topics ranging from nuclear energy to the feminist movement, and even managed to win one of the rounds and come second in two of them!

Debating inside the Oxford Union Chamber was an incredible experience for Eva Mai and Freya and we are so proud that they had the opportunity to compete alongside some of the best school teams in the world. Well done girls! What an amazing achievement!
