Today, Her Excellency Ambassador Abdalmajid, the Ambassador representing Palestine in Ireland visited our school and addressed the Transition and Fifth Year students in the Hall from twelve to one pm. Ambassador Abdalmajid spoke about her childhood in Palestine and explained the difficulties children had and still face today in actually getting to school. She told us about how dangerous daily life is there and told us personal examples from her family. She told us that this situation is getting worse in Palestine now. She explained the geography and history of Palestine and showed us maps and photos of the country. The Ambassador described how she became an Ambassador and spoke about all the training and education she underwent. This is her first posting as an Ambassador. She told the students that if they work hard and think about where they want to go in the future, they can do anything and can overcome serious difficulties like she had to do. She said it is important to be aware of human rights and lack of freedom to education in the world today. Overall, it was a fascinating insight into life in Palestine. We will continue our learning around the right to education and connect this learning with our Worldwise Global Schools programme here at Beaufort.
