A Message from the Chair of the Parents Association : Ms Donna Walsh
Hearts for Homeless Fundraising Campaign – Peter McVerry Trust
Packs of Cards Featuring our ‘Hearts for Frontline Workers’ Image for Sale
During the first lockdown in April 2020 (World Innovation and Creativity Day) the LHS Art department launched a Hearts for Heroes Project (along with other schools in Ireland) to say a big thank you to all Frontline Workers for their outstanding work. Students, staff, past-pupils, Loreto Sisters Navan and Abbey House Community all took part, creating beautiful heart images. These images were collated into a very powerful image, touching many hearts and minds.
When school reopened in September, all efforts were made to try and keep everything as normal as possible and learn to live with Covid 19. However, it was clear just by looking around our surroundings that Covid 19 was going to be around for sometime to come. Everyone was asked to wear face masks when indoors, “wash hands, wash hands, wash hands” was repeatedly being said on the radio and everyone was asked to remain physically distant when in close proximity to others. Normality as we knew it would not be returning for some time.
For some this has been a very anxious, stressful and lonely time. It has touched many lives in different ways, some people have lost loved ones to the illness, some have lost their jobs and many have not seen close family and friends for over a year.
It was with this in mind, following some discussions between the LHS PA and Ms Kavanagh that it was decided that sharing image could spread a lot more happiness and joy. The image could reach out to many of our loved ones, people within our community to simply express our feelings and say “From our Hearts to Yours”. It’s important to let them know that they have not been forgotten, are in our thoughts and prayers and we look forward to the day when we will see them again. As the saying says. “A picture paints a thousand words”. And from these initial ideas a project was born.
The card can be sent for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day (March 14th) or Easter Sunday (April 4th) or just to reach out to someone to let them know you care.
The cards will go on sale later this week for €10.00 (pack of 5 cards) initially through school internal payment system – “School Payments” on School Website. Please look for “Hearts for Homeless” project.
The cards are 5” x 7” in size, will be sold in packs of 5 (including envelopes) and will be packaged in transparent shrink wrap and posted out via the schools postal system.
All net proceeds shall go to the Peter McVerry Trust, a national homeless and housing charity committed to reducing homelessness and the harm caused by social disadvantage and drug misuse.
On behalf of the LHS PA I would ask you to support this fundraising project.
Kind Regards,
Donna Walsh, Chairperson LHS Beaufort Parents Association.
