Our eco warriors were learning about eco bricks during Green Committee meeting today.
What are they?
An Ecobrick is a reusable building block created by packing clean and dry used soft plastic into a plastic bottle to a set density (around 600g is ideal). Ecobricks enable us to take personal responsibility for our plastic.
What can you do?
- You could collect any 2 litre empty bottles you have and drop them into Ms Cagney or any Green Committee member.
- You could collect any soft plastic you have (soft plastic cannot be recycled in Ireland anymore). Make sure it is clean and dry and start filling your own ecobricks.
- You could come and support our ecobrick experts at lunch time next Tuesday in the hall. They will have a stand there to demonstrate and give examples of good and not so good ecobricks.
- You could give us some ideas about what to build with our ecobricks
Of course the idea is not that we collect lots of ecobricks in the school. Our mission is to reduce waste. We hope that you will see just how much plastic we use by supporting this initiative and getting active. It should make you really think about what you use, but more importantly, how can we reduce the plastic waste we are using? It’s not as difficult as you thing. Watch this space for tips and tricks over the coming months.
In other Green news, our Green Committee member Clara has been selected to participate in Ireland’s first ever Youth Assembly on Climate. On Friday November 15th the country’s first ever Youth Assembly on Climate is set to take place in Dáil Éireann.
