Next Tuesday is National Proclamation Day. The History Dept. will be organising a number of events to celebrate the day in Beaufort. The entire school is invited to dress up in 1916 style clothes for the day, so long skirts ,shawls(a scarf),hats(if available),white blouses,shirts,flat caps,braces,waistcoats,black trousers, aprons. The €2 collected per student will go to Aidlink Uganda. Great prizes available for the best costumes! Thanks to all form teachers for co-ordinating this.
On Proclamation Day, the students will display a variety of projects on various aspects of 1916 including living conditions in Ireland, key locations, individuals who participated and those who were affected by the events of Easter Week 1916.
There will be a Special Assembly, for a reading of the Proclamation and presentation of the school flag by senior History students. There will be a number of other historical and musical presentations.The school choir will perform “The Proclamation Song” and other pieces. A rousing National Anthem sung by the whole school will end the proceedings. The Irish teachers have been practising!
A 1916 treasure hunt for Junior classes will take place throughout the day. This promises to be a fun event for all.
A short film on St.Enda’s school is being made by the fifth year history class and will be shown on the day too.
