Mary Ward Week: 25th – 29th January 2016

in News

Mary Ward, the founder of the Loreto order, was born on the 23rd. January 1585 and will be remembered next week in Beaufort.  She was and is an inspiration to all.  A woman before her time, she saw that education was essential to the empowerment of women.  She said that we must be “seekers of truth and doers of justice” and that “women in time will do much”.  In Loreto schools worldwide we try to imbue our pupils with a sense of her values;  justice, love, truth, joy and sincerity.

Each day next week there will be prayer, reflection, quizzes and prizes to celebrate her life.  The week will culminate with a wreath laying ceremony on Friday by the school council at the grave of Teresa Ball,  the founder of Loreto schools in Ireland.  Sister Brigid Tunney, IBVM,  will also speak to our students about the Loreto mission to Rumbek,  Sudan, and our sister school which we have helped to fund.  We will present her with a cheque from our Colour run and look forward to hearing how their work is progressing.   Happy birthday,  Mary Ward!
