For our CSPE action project, 2S and Ms. Walsh held a designated day to raise awareness of homelessness in Ireland. We put up a display at reception, peer taught the first years and decorated the school with posters and facts on homelessness. Homelessness is one of the greatest issues facing Ireland at the moment.
In the past two years the number of people sleeping rough has increased by 93 percent.
Job loss is the leading cause of homelessness today.
The five main reasons that people in Ireland become homeless are job loss, bills higher than earnings, eviction by family, abuse at home and prison.
St. Vincent de Paul is the largest homeless charity in Ireland, it was started in 1844 and now has over 10,000 volunteers and staff members.
Many thanks,
