For Gender Equality Week, the JPIC captains organised a speaker to talk to the fourth years about gender equality. We were very fortunate to get the former Irish rugby captain, Fiona Coghlan. We were lucky that Kate Coghlan in fourth year is related to this icon. She gave an excellent talk on Friday 30th January. She had a power point presentation about gender inequality in sport. In the power point, she discussed the reasons why there were barriers for women in sport. She mentioned women role models in sport such as Katie Taylor, Sonia O’Sullivan and Niamh Briggs. The talk was very effective and all the students engaged well. The Transition year students asked many questions about women in sport and for her to share some of her sporting experiences. At the end of the talk, we presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Thank you Fiona.
