On Tuesday 3rd December, 2013, there will be a book launch in Beaufort. The book, entitled “Promotion of Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women” is being published by Self-Help Africa.
This is a particularly exciting event for us as many contributions to the book have been made by Beaufort students. Alongside celebrities and politicians, such as Alex White, 25 Beaufort students from 1st to 6th year shine with essays, reflections, illustrations and poems about their thoughts on gender inequality.
This subject of gender inequality was widely talked about in Beaufort two years ago, when the Junior and Senior JPIC Committees decided that it was important to educate the pupils in the school on the problem and thus an entire week was dedicated to learning about gender inequality in both the Global North and Global South. All Loreto schools were invited to submit articles to the book and all the Beaufort students were strongly encouraged to put their feelings about gender inequality into essays, poetry, reflections and illustrations. Self-Help Africa received many entries for the book from all of the different Loreto schools across the country and we are very proud to see that there are many Beaufort articles published in it. It’s wonderful to see so many familiar names in the contents page! Well done girls, both to those published and those who entered and we can’t wait for the book launch!
