There are many competitions occurring in the next few weeks. The debating society are preparing for Third Years Grace Pender and Aisling Maceree’s debate in UCD on Thrusday the 10th of October at 6:30 where they will be 4th prop in the motion “That this house would arm the Gardaí”. We wish them good luck.

Also competing are senior debaters Mary Hastings and Eimear O’ Connor. They will be 2nd prop arguing the motion “That this house would censor the internet”. Their debate will be on Tuesday the 15th of October in UCD at 6:30pm. Best of luck girls.
On Saturday the 5th of October, four girls from the debating society, Grace Pender, Aisling MacAree, Anna Sweeney and Órlaith Barry, went to compete in the junior Belvedere competition. The girls were in teams of twos, Grace & Aisling and Anna & órlaith, debated on the following titles;

That this house would remove Irish as a compulsory subject from secondary schools
That this house would have a mandatory organ donation after death
That this house would insure that at least 40% of TDs are women
That this house would criminalise the payments of ransoms

Even though the girls didn’t win, they did very well and enjoyed the day.
