Lourdes Day 2

in News

Second day

Here comes the sun!
Waking up on a sunny morning in Lourdes, we felt positive about the challenges that lay ahead. The day began with the Penitential service in the underground Basillica. The good weather cheered everyone up and it was nice to sit in the sun with our pilgrims.

Later on in the afternoon, we escorted our Pilgrims to our favourite mass so far “The anointing of the sick”. It was very poignant witnessing our VIPS receiving the sacrament. After the anointing of the sick we enjoyed afternoon tea in the shade of the trees with our Pilgrims.
Then we went back to the wards and spent the afternoon chatting and listening to many wonderful stories.
It was great to spend time over dinner with our past pupils who have supported us in our Pilgrim journey. We are so proud of the tradition that has developed in Beaufort during the past four years and are so grateful to the girls for their guidance.

It was great to cheer on the past pupils and Ms. Donohue at the medal ceremony which saw them recognised for their service over the past three years. Chappo, Kate kirwan and Rebecca Hearns were each rewarded bronze medals.

At the end of the evening we enjoyed night prairie by candlelight which involved four schools reflecting on the theme of signs of faith in Lourdes. To end the night a lively singsong was hosted by the older volunteers (white shirts) in a nearby hotel.

We are really looking forward to tomorrow! Let’s hope the sun continues to shine! The forecast isn’t too positive.
