Sixth Years Volunteering in Kolkata

in News

Good luck to our four Sixth Years – Sarah mcCarthy, Leanne Farrington, Katie O’Connor and Niamh Clarke who will be travelling to Kolkata this summer after their Leaving Cert. The girls have offered to work in Loreto Sealdah voluntarily and have been preparing for this journey for over a year. Loreto Sealdah is a busy and infamous school in central Kolkata which was run by Sr Cyril from Bray for almost forty years. Sr Cyril just recently retired and we wish her all the best in the future. During her time in Sealdah she established many successful projects which have benefited thousands of children in Kolkata and the surrounding areas including the rooftop education centre for street children, peer teaching and teacher training programs.

Sr Cyril made a surprise visit to Beaufort two weeks ago and the four girls had a chance to talk to her. As always, Sr Cyril was very encouraging and spoke positively about education and life in India.
