Irish Independent: Beaufort supports Darkness into Light Run

in Press Coverage

SUNDAY INDEPENDENT REPORTER – 12 MAY 2013

After reading the inspiring story of Donal Walsh, the terminally-ill teen who made an emotional plea over youth suicide in the Sunday Independent, and having seen him on the Saturday Night Show, the transition and fifth year students from Loreto High School Beaufort were moved to pay tribute to him.

They took part in Friday night/Saturday morning’s ‘Darkness into Light’ event in the Phoenix Park, which was just one of hundreds of ‘Darkness Into Light’ events held throughout the country to raise funds for Pieta House.

“To my amazement 135 pupils signed up and several members of staff,” said Niamh Donohue, chaplain of Loreto High School Beaufort.

“We arrived to the park where there were 5,000 at least gathered. We paused at the monument in Phoenix Park and paid tribute to Donal and we are proud to say we took on his message to promote mental health amongst young people.

“As chaplain, I see my beautiful Beaufort girls as beacons of hope in our world today and shining examples of young people engaging in acts of compassion.”
