On the 20th of March 1P and 1Q went on a history trip to Dublinia and Christ Church Cathedral. Ms Murphy and Ms A. Egan came with us. Dublinia is a fun and educational museum that shows us how the Vikings and the medieval people lived in Dublin. It also explains how archaeologists work. Christ Church Cathedral is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture.
The first floor of the museum is the Viking section. Our guide showed us a typical Viking house and explained how the Vikings lived. The second floor is the medieval section. We visited a market and a rich merchant’s house. We learnt how the Black Death killed many Dubliners in the 13th Century. The third floor is dedicated to archaeology. We saw how archaeologists excavate a site and then how they date their finds in a lab. This is an important part of our history course so we got in some good revision! We then went into Christ Church Cathedral which was built in 1028. We saw Strongbow’s tomb, looked at the gothic architecture and visited the crypt.
IT and IQ went on the same trip the week before with Ms O’Neill and Ms Sheridan. All the 1st Years agree that it was a great day out!
