Student Council Awareness Week 2012

in News
Our Student Council organized an awareness week which took place from the 5th-7th December. The week was a huge success and involved an open student council meeting and an extraordinary Christmas Decoration competition.
The open council meeting was held during lunch time on Wednesday in the Auditorium. All council members attended along with many students from various year groups. Many topics were discussed such as the mobile phone policy and the heavy school bag issue which is a burden on many people’s backs! The meeting gave students a chance to see how the council operates and what issues are discussed on behalf of all students. We showed the student body that the council, truly is, the Voice of the Students.
Our other big event that took place during the week was the Christmas Decoration Competition. This was a task laid down by the student council for every student to make a decoration from recycled materials. We saw a huge variety of decorations from Angels made out of coke cans to Christmas trees made from magazines. The creative side of the school was on show. The idea behind the competition was to create a positive, festive spirit in the school. The finalists from the different years were put on a new beautiful, young tree that has been donated to the school from the council. We wanted to turn a very plain tree into something beautiful by putting our recycled decorations on. The tree will be planted after Christmas. We had one winner and three entries that were highly commended. Robyn 2P was our overall winner and she received a pizza party for her class. Our runners up were Lauren (5th year), Ciara (5th year) and Theresa (1st year) and they won sweets for their class. The competition was a huge success and our winners will be put on the tree every year, from now on. We hope that this will be the start of a lovely tradition in the school.
