St. Brigid’s Day is celebrated each year on the 1st of February. St Brigid is one of Ireland’s three patron saints and was born in 450 AD, during the time of St. Patrick. St. Brigid had a vocation; she felt God calling her to look after the poor, sick and elderly. She founded many convents all over Ireland; the most famous of which was in Co. Kildare.
To mark her feast day, some of the 1st years of Loreto Beaufort learned how to make St. Brigid’s crosses. The cross was originally used by St. Brigid to teach a dying pagan man about Christianity. Traditionally, crosses are hung in homes and stables to bring protection to the people and animals living there. We have put our crosses around the school to protect the students and staff.
